Mutualist Blog: Free Market Anti-Capitalism

To dissolve, submerge, and cause to disappear the political or governmental system in the economic system by reducing, simplifying, decentralizing and suppressing, one after another, all the wheels of this great machine, which is called the Government or the State. --Proudhon, General Idea of the Revolution

"Laissez-Faire Capitalism": Redundant, or Oxymoron?

Great extended discussion at freeman, lc on the various nuanced meanings of capitalism and free markets, from a left-libertarian perspective. Among other things, it quotes Chris Sciabarra's old posts Capitalism: The Known Reality and "Capitalism" and Other Isms, with all sorts of interesting meanders on whether the term "capitalism" can be legitimately equated to the free market, or whether it should be used in the original sense of the Ricardian socialists and radical classical liberals (who identified it with "actually existing capitalism," as distinguished from the free market). It's too long and complex to summarize beyond that, but you should definitely check it out.
