Blogs for Conviviality
Paul Knatz has several new blogs up. Knatz, for anyone who hasn't been lucky enough to happen across his work yet, was an early associate and protege of Ivan Illich and has developed the latter's ideas in some interesting directions. Although Illich himself was profoundly distrustful of computers, likening them to cars as a destructive force in Silence is a Commons, Knatz has done some fascinating work on the implications of cybernetic technology for the decentralized learning webs Illich described in Deschooling Society.
His Info All and Macroinformation blogs are a sort of adjunct to his permanent site, with posts serving as drafts or trial balloons. IonaArc is more of a personal blog.
Paul Knatz is also, by the way, father to B.K. Marcus, whose lowercase liberty blog is one of my daily reads.
